LANSING, MI (WHTC) – Michigan Republicans decided to promote a member of Mitt Romney’s family to head the state’s party for the upcoming presidential elections next year. The Holland Sentinel reports that chairman Bobby Schostak refused to go on the ballot again after four years of service to Michigan’s Republican Party.
Saturday, Michigan Republicans voted to have 41 year old Ronna Romney McDaniel, a niece of 2012 presidential candidate Mitt Romney, take over for Schostak’s chairman position. She received 55% of the first ballot’s vote and was unanimously chosen by the delegates of the Republican Party. Other candidates for party chairman included Norm Hughes, who worked for former President Ronald Reagan, and Kim Shmina, a nurse. McDaniel is from Northville, Michigan, which is just a stone throw away from Mitt Romney’s hometown of Detroit.
