SCHOOLCRAFT TOWNSHIP (WKZO) — A would-be burglar who tried to break into a home on West VW Ave. in Schoolcraft Township is lying in a hospital bed, recovering from a gunshot wound.
The homeowner heard a loud knocking and then someone trying to get in through the door.
Observing two strangers at the door, the homeowner retreated.
One of strangers walked to the side of the house and the homeowner heard breaking glass and then saw a male inside the house.
By this time the Homeowner had apparently called 9-1-1 and retrieved a gun.
Deputies say in fear, the homeowner opened fire, hitting the suspect.
The second man fled but ran into officers from Vicksburg and Schoolcraft who were responding to the 9-1-1 call.
The condition of the suspect has not been released. The shooting will be reviewed.
