ALLEGAN (WKZO) — Allegan County School officials will be launching an Early Middle College program this fall.
The program extends High school to five years, but instead of just a high school diploma, a student also comes out with an Associates Degree, which is the equivalent of getting two years of college for free.
The cost is covered by the state per pupil grant all districts get from Lansing.
The Allegan County program announced Monday is aimed at launching students into four year programs to fine arts and business degrees, to improve the county’s college graduation rate.
All seven districts in the County will contribute to the 50 students who will be the inagural class.
Kalamazoo County Schools announced their own Early Middle College Program in December, but the focus will be on developing Welders, machinists and PC technicians who are “job ready” whether or not they go on to get the 4 year degree.
