WASHINGTON, D.C. (WKZO) — There’s good news for smokers as federal health regulators have approved Medicare coverage for lung cancer screening. People between the ages of 55-and-77 will be able to get a low-dose CT scan once a year.
Current smokers and smokers who have quit smoking within 15 years are eligible. Smokers who smoked one pack a day for 30 years, two packs for a day for 15 years, or three packs a day for a decade can also get the Medicare-covered screening.
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services says the coverage is effective immediately.
