LANSING, MI (WHTC/WKZO) – With the deadline approaching today, the State of Michigan will not challenge a federal judge’s ruling that the state must recognize the 323 same sex marriages conducted immediately after a federal judge lifted the state’s ban, and a higher court slammed it back down. Governor Rick Snyder has said all along he intends to obey the courts.
It puts the state in an unusual position, because the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled that the state’s ban is constitutional and remains in effect. The Governor says now it’s up to the Supreme Court to settle the issue once and for all.
