DETROIT (WKZO) — The Detroit Tigers organization is mourning the loss of former first baseman and outfielder Dave Bergman. The team confirmed the death of the 61-year-old on Monday.
Bergman played for the Tigers from 1984 to 1992, and fans from that era will recall his home run after a series of foul balls in a 13-pitch at-bat against Toronto on June 4th, 1984. He also made a key defensive play at first base to preserve the no-hitter thrown by Jack Morris against the Chicago White Sox in April of that year, the same season the Tigers won their last World Series title.
