VAN BUREN COUNTY (WKZO) A 65-year-old Bloomingdale Township man is being held on 5-million dollars bond charged with repeated sexual assaults on a 9-year old girl.
Investigators say the assaults took place multiple times over a year and a half period that ended last October when information about the crime surfaced and Michael Gwilliams fled the state.
Van Buren County investigators were able to track Gwilliams to an address in Silver Springs, Florida, but also learned that he was about to leave for Colorado.
They were able to obtain a warrant from the Van Buren County Prosecutor charging Gwilliams with first degree criminal sexual conduct and for being a habitual offender.
Florida authorities took him into custody on those warrants in Mid-January and the suspect was extradited back to Michigan late last week and charged.
If convicted on the charges, Gwilliams could get life without parole.
