DETROIT (WKZO) — Negotiations are reportedly continuing to save two historic abandoned buildings on the site of the planned Red Wings arena and entertainment district.
Detroit City Councilman George Cushingberry told WDIV-TV that there is hope for rehabilitating the Hotel Park Avenue and Hotel Eddystone. The city is trying to broker a deal with the Red Wings owners selling the buildings to a third party, who could receive federal funds for development.
Both hotels were constructed in 1924 and designed by architect Louis Kamper. The intent is to turn them into affordable apartments for seniors.
