PAW PAW (WKZO) — Freezing rain made for icy roads that resulted in a pair of crashes involving Van Buren County Sheriff’s vehicles on eastbound I-94 in Paw Paw.
Around 2:15 a.m. Thursday a deputy was seeing to a slide-off crash when a 35-year-old Chicago man driving a semi slammed his truck into the deputy’s vehicle which rolled onto its side with the deputy inside. Both were treated and released from area hospitals.
A second crash took place around 5:28 a.m. when another semi driven by a 37-year-old Canadian man hit another deputy’s vehicle as it had its lights on to alert motorists that traffic was being re-routed while the first crash was being investigated. There were no injuries in the second crash.
