DETROIT (WKZO) — Charges will be dismissed this week against Detroit Police Officer Joseph Weekley for the shooting death of seven-year-old Aiyana Stanley-Jones in 2010 during a raid being taped for a reality TV show.
ayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy called it “unfortunate” that she will not put Weekley on trial for a third time following a hung jury in October. The girl was shot in the head as she slept on a couch.
Police burst into the house searching for a murder suspect, and Weekley says he pulled the trigger when the victim’s grandmother reached for the gun, an allegation she has denied.
