LANSING (WKZO) — Governor Snyder is continuing to call for an expansion of the state’s Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act to include protection for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Michigan residents. He appeared before the state Civil Rights Commission on Monday to talk about his civil rights priorities for the year, including improving race relations, expanding immigration, and creating more opportunities for those with disabilities.
While the governor did not mention Elliott-Larsen in his presentation, he did respond to a question by saying “discrimination isn’t right,” and he wants to “make positive progress” on the issue. He was the first sitting governor in over 50 years to appear before the commission.
