KALAMAZOO (WKZO) — State Police Lt. Dale Hinz says they will be adding road patrols this summer along the stretch of I-94 where the big pile-up occurred to slow down traffic and watch for seat belt and alcohol violations, but its not related to the chain reaction crash involving nearly 200 vehicles.
He says they had planned to do the directed patrols even before the chain reaction collision. In fact they did the same patrols last year.
He says they haven’t concluded yet that speed or poor driving was the cause of the big wreck two weeks ago, and its premature to recommend solutions.
If the goal was to prevent another big pile-up, they would do it now and not wait until summer when snow won’t be an issue.
