KALAMAZOO (WKZO) — Citizen complaints have already prompted city staff to exclude all residential properties from the new Southtown Design District.
The City reportedly already has developers interested, but there was both support and resistance during a public hearing this week.
They don’t like the plan and they don’t like being called “Southtown”.
Opponents say you can’t impose standards on such a diverse neighborhood.
Supporters say the idea isn’t to impose one standard, but just to make sure that new properties blend in with whatever is already there.
Commissioner Don Cooney voted no to putting the question on the next city agenda for a vote, saying it needs more work, but the rest of the commission went the other way.
