KALAMAZOO (WKZO) — Accused killer Brian Roberts has cut a deal with prosecutors, agreeing to plead guilty to second degree murder for the death of his 2-year-old son.
He was set to begin trial this week. In exchange for the plea, Felony murder and first degree child abuse charges will be dropped and a minimum sentence set at 15-years in prison.
40-year-old Roberts, who is a third time offender, has offered various explanations for the death of little Nehemiah Dodd, none of them were consistent with the injuries doctors say the little boy suffered.
They say it appears that child abuse was the cause of death.
Roberts had had custody for less than a month, because family court had stripped the mother of her custodial rights, last December.
