LANSING, MI (WHTC) – Beginning her third and final two-year term in the state House, Amanda Price assumed some leadership positions yesterday.
The Park Township Republican was named chairwoman of the House Education Committee. She plans on reintroducing legislation that would mandate state students have a third-grade reading proficiency, and has supported Common Core standards for state schools. Freshman lawmaker Daniela Garcia of Holland will be her vice-chair. In addition, Price was named the vice-chair of the Local Government Committee; she was the Park Township Supervisor before going to Lansing four years ago.
Price also announced her co-sponsorship of legislation that would repeal Michigan’s prevailing wage law, calling it outdated because fewer than 20 percent of workers on state-funded construction projects are unionized.
Among the other members of the Lakeshore’s state House delegation, Hudsonville’s Roger Victory will chair the Environmental Quality appropriations subcommittee, while Plainwell’s Cindy Gamrat will be the vice-chair of the Military and Veteran’s Affairs appropriations subcommittee.
