SAN DIEGO (WKZO) — Social media posts that have offended gays, African Americans and Muslims along with homophobic comments in a speech to the Berrien County Republican Party in 2013 have resulted in the censure of Dave Agema by top officials with the Republican National Committee.
The RNC’s Executive Committee voted to censure the Republican national committeeman from Michigan Wednesday night at the start of the RNC Winter Meeting in San Diego. Party Chairman Reince Priebus and others want the former state representative from Grandville to resign, with Priebus adding “Agema’s history of harmful and offensive rhetoric has no place in our party.”
While the RNC has no written rules for getting rid of members for offensive behavior, the Executive Committee is urging the Michigan Republican Party to investigate a way to remove Agema if he won’t resign.
