PAW PAW (WKZO) — A Bangor woman who is facing up to life in prison for allegedly torturing her 6 year-old daughter for three years, will undergo a psychiatric exam to determine whether she is competent to stand trial, and to determine if she was mentally ill during the commission of the crimes she faces.
Investigators say the daughter was kept strapped into a child restraint seat most of the day and punished by being locked in a totally dark room.
State Police say 47-year-old Stephanie Arteaga told them that she was afraid the girl would hurt herself, if left unrestrained.
Arteaga is charged with first-degree child abuse and child torture.
