DETROIT (WKZO) — Sergio Marchionne, the head of Fiat Chrysler, says the government’s mandated fuel economy targets should be rolled back.
Marchionne says the U.S. auto industry should actually ask the government to change its requirements. As it stands now, by the 2025 model year automakers will be required to build vehicles with an average fuel economy of just over 54-miles per gallon.
Marchionne says automakers can certainly achieve the goal but it will cost them billions. He says he is not concerned about meeting the fuel economy standard. He is, however, worried about the timeframe.
