PAW PAW (WKZO) — Michigan State Police have a huge task at hand in trying to figure out exactly what caused a huge 193-vehicle pileup on Interstate 94 near the Kalamazoo and Calhoun county line on Friday.
Lieutenant Dale Hinz says the accident scene was a series of crashes in both directions that stretched for over a mile, and compared it to a “war zone.” Many of the vehicles caught fire, and are so badly damaged that authorities are using acid to try to find the Vehicle Identification Numbers.
Figuring out exactly what happened will take police several days, and they have an entire room at the Paw Paw post dedicated to reconstructing the accident.
