WEST MICHIGAN (WKZO) — Record low temperatures have crept into west Michigan with ambient temperatures well below zero overnight.
It may prompt some to try different and dangerous ways to stay warm in homes with inadequate or no heating systems, who have had their utilities cut.
Jeannie Byrne with the Kalamazoo County Health Department says let them help you get that service restored.
She says it may not be worth the risk to fire up an old fireplace or stove if the chimney hasn’t been inspected lately.
She says blocked chimneys or creosote build-up can cause carbon monoxide poisoning, or damaging and possibly deadly fires.
