LANSING (WKZO) –Gov. Rick Snyder has signed legislation that will theoretically provide most of the funding the state needs to restore Michigan’s crumbling roads and bridges, that’s if voters agree to approve the higher taxes to pay for it this May.
WIth bent tire rims placed next to his signing desk he held up a piece of concrete that fell from a bridge.
He thinks voters should support the measure.
The complicated set of bills also includes $300-million for schools, and restores the Earned Income Tax Credit.It will mean a one cent increase in the sales tax and it will also raise taxes on truckers and on diesel fuel.
Governor Snyder has announced he is cancelling his trip to Davos, Switzerland. He was invited to speak at an international conference about the Detroit bankruptcy, but it would have required that he leave right after delivering the State of the State address. He says his running injury will prevent him from making the trip. His leg is currently in a cast after he suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon.
