KENTWOOD (WKZO) — An employee of Hearthside Foods Bakery in Kentwood is facing up to a decade in prison after being accused of putting a handful of nuts and bolts into the mix for granola bars.
Court documents show 22-year-old Ruben Gramajo has admitted to the crime last week, and says he did it to “get a break from work.” He’s now facing felony charges, and company officials say security measures prevented the nuts and bolts from getting into any food that left the plant on 44th Street.
Nearly 440-thousand granola bars that were being produced were destroyed.
