UNDATED (WHTC)- Deteriorating Michigan roads are one aspect of an upcoming ballot in which Michigan voters will head to the polls May 5 and decide the issue concerning an increase in Michigan’s state sales tax. The ballot seeks to increase the state sales tax up one percent to seven percent. and school revenue funding from K-12 and community colleges only, and not include universities. The ballot also proposes a drop in the state sales fuel tax. The state legislature passed the ballot proposal last month, thus creating the vote on May 5th.
Local road commissions could also benefit from the passed legislation. Allegan County Board Vice-Chairman Jim Storey of Holland suggested that over 14 million dollars annually would come to his county’s road commision if the ballot propsal passes on May 5th.
