DETROIT (WKZO) — A Wayne County judge accused of fraudulently receiving paid medical leave has been deemed “psychotic” and not fit to continue as a judge.
In an 18 page report released Tuesday, retired Wayne County Circuit Judge Michael Sapala wrote 36th District Judge Brenda Sanders is “seriously mentally ill” and concluded her mental disability renders her unfit to sit as a judge. During disciplinary hearings by the state Judicial Tenure Commission last month, which Sapala presided over, a psychiatrist testified that Sanders suffers from “paranoid delusions.”
The commission is expected to issue its decision and recommendations on the matter in March.
