KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The City of Kalamazoo has begun accepting nominations for its Dr. Lewis Walker Social Justice Youth Award.
According to City officials, the award is granted annually to Kalamazoo students between the ages of 12-19 that have demonstrated leadership achievements in the area of racial and social justice through community service activities and volunteerism.
The award is given in honor of Dr. Lewis Walker, described by officials as “a trailblazer for the progression of racial equity in Kalamazoo.”
Winners will receive a $300 monetary award along with the community service award, which is presented at the City Commission Meeting following the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Wide Day of Service.

Students can also be nominated by another party.
