WASHINGTON D.C. (WKZO-AM) — Sunday is the deadline to sign up for coverage under the Affordable Care Act.
Computers make it possible to set a Sunday deadline for a government program. Anyone who is eligible who doesn’t sign up may be subject to a $695 dollar fine on next year’s tax bill.
Amy Terry, the coordinator of Enroll Kalamazoo County, suggests not waiting until Sunday to get enrolled.
“On the last day of enrollment, the website often crashes and we experience a lot of delays — the call centers have a lot of delays, as well,” Terry said.
But what if you don’t want to sign up? She said, just because you’re healthy today, there is no guarantee you won’t get hit by a bus or catch some chronic disease tomorrow.
“It really is in people’s best financial interest, and for people’s health, to be covered with health insurance,” Terry said.
