OTSEGO TWP., MI (WHTC) – Charges are pending after a standoff situation at a home near Otsego yesterday morning ended peacefully.
Allegan County Sheriff’s Deputies, along with police officers from both Otsego and Plainwell, were called to the undisclosed residence just before 10:00 a.m. on a report of a known felon in possession of a firearm inside. There were concerns that other people, including the homeowner, were also inside and that their lives may have been in peril.
Two persons safely left the premises shortly after deputies arrived, but when the felon apparently refused to budge, the department’s Tactical Team was deployed. Negotiators were able to convince the yet-to-be-named suspect to surrender peacefully and he awaits arraignment on outstanding warrants and charges stemming from this incident in the Allegan County Jail. A stolen firearm was recovered from the residence.
The incident remains under investigation.
