KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Kalamazoo Public Safety officers are releasing more information on an armed robbery that occurred not far from Western Michigan University’s campus.
They say the victim was standing in the 1300 block of Lafayette Avenue near the corner of Redwood Avenue early Friday morning when the suspect asked to use his cellphone.
He then refused to give it back and when the victim attempted to grab it the man flashed a black handgun, and then jumped into a white-colored sedan with a cream interior where he was last seen heading northbound on Lafayette.
The suspect is described as a light-skinned black man, 5’7″, medium build, with stubble and acne on his face. He was wearing a green or brown coat with a black hoodie, black pants, and black Timberland brand boots.
WMU Public Safety officers first tweeted an advisory around 3:30 a.m. Friday saying that KDPS was responding to a report of a robbery in the 1300 block of Knollwood Avenue, but it was later learned that it occurred on Lafayette.
Officers say “This composite drawing is an artist’s rendering of an unknown suspect, produced from a witness description. It should be viewed as an approximation of the suspect’s appearance, rather than an exact likeness.”
