NILES, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A nearly 60 year old golf course in Berrien County has been sold to developers and could possibly be turned into housing.
The owners of Signal Point Golf Course near Niles sold the property to real estate broker Jim Ringler and Partners recently, who is considering big changes to the property.
Ringler is a southwest michigan agent who works with Cressy Commercial Real Estate Services. New management says that it could potentially remain a golf club, but with many course-owners turning to the more lucrative practice of residential development, it’s fate remains uncertain.
Previous owners, South Bend based Blackthorn Gold Club, purchesed the course in 2018 with the idea that it would be an attractive event space for companies and private individuals. After just a year of ownership the club decided to reach out to potential buyers, with Ringler buying the 18-hole course for $550,000 dollars.
A few homes already currently exist on the course, so the owners say the property would most likely be slated for upscale oriented development like large houses or scenic condos. They say that the course’s nature trail and 3,500-square-foot clubhouse could be welcoming amneties for new residents.
