KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Kalamazoo School Trustees are approving a new contract with their next Superintendent.
At their meeting on Thursday night the board agreed on a 3-year contract with Dr. Rita Raichoudhuri from Chicago Public Schools with an annual salary of $223,000.
Dr. Rita is the Executive Director of Early College & Career Education. She has a doctorate degree in urban education leadership and a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction. Her educational career has spans 16-years including classroom teaching, building level principal, and central office roles.
However, it may be a while before Dr. Rita reports to work because her contract will keep her in the Windy City until this summer.
Trustees noted that Raichoudhuri’s experience in career and vocational education would come in handy as the county embarks on the creation of a new vocational education center just approved by voters.
Trustee Ken Greschak says they have already begun working on a list of expectations and goals for their new chief executive.
If all goes well, Dr. Rita could begin her new job on June 1st.
The new superintendent comes after former KPS superintendent Dr. Michael Rice was named the Michigan State Superintendent of Education back in May.
