BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Battle Creek Fire Department (BCFD) is reporting no injuries in a pub fire that took place early Tuesday morning.
It happened at Griffin Grill & Pub, located at 38 West Michigan Avenue in the downtown area.
BCFD first responders arrived just before 3:30 a.m. and discovered that an outside electrical box had started a small fire in the mulch at the rear of the building.
The manager of the establishment and a cleaning assistant were on scene at the time and shut off the power to the panel.
Subsequent investigations of the building roof and interior showed that no smoke or fire damage occurred inside.
Consumers Energy later conducted an electrical inspection.
In a Facebook post released later, management of Griffin Grill & Pub made the following statement:
“Griffin Pub would like to extend our gratitude to two of our wonderful employees, Richard Foote and Glenda McElvain, for their quick thinking in the event of emergency. We would also like to thank the Battle Creek Fire Department for the quick response and for keeping the fire contained. Without their combined efforts, the outcome could have been horrible for Griffin Pub.”
