KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — This is Kalamazoo’s Bike Week, a time were residents reflect on the Kalamazoo bike tragedy and push for heightened awareness of the dangers cyclists sometimes face.
Bike Week Chair David Warwick says they hope to let drivers know they are out there as the warmer air has finally arrived, and a lot more people will be biking.
The week begins with the opening of the Kalamazoo River Valley Trail Downtown Connector.
It’s the long awaited final link between local trails that connect the Kalamazoo River system to the east with the western trails and the Kal Haven Trail.
In addition, local police agencies will be conducting a joint enforcement operation targeting cyclists and drivers who don’t obey the rules.
Kalamazoo County Sheriff Richard Fuller says they will be watching for aggressive riding, speeding, and ignoring traffic control devices.
