KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — Kalamazoo’s Hospitality House organization has broken ground on a second new facility, which will be located closer to Bronson Hospital.
For years the organization has operated out of a historic home on Academy Street, providing free room and board for the families of patients from out of town who have nowhere to stay, and not a lot of cash to spend.
It was nice but not built for the task and not close to the hospitals.
Located at 828 S. Burdick St, near Bronson Hospital, the residence will feature accommodations for 17 overnight guests, common kitchen, eating, laundry facilities along with a children’s playroom, library and outdoor play and patio areas. The House will be ADA compliant.
A similar one was recently constructed near Borgess Hospital to provide for their needs.
Campaign Co-Chair Lisa Carriveau says they are still fundraising. They still need to raise $400,000 to make their $4.8-million goal. She says they hope to open the doors on their second facility early next year. We have a link to their website where you can send a donation right here.
