KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — As we first reported yesterday, local municipalities and relief organizations will use the 211 phone system as the way that flood victims can connect with services and agencies that can aide them in recovering. The Gryphon place will compile a needs assessment list.
Flood levels have continued to fall, and its down nearly two feet from the peak on Saturday. It’s made all the difference downtown, with just one street near Bronson Hospital still flooded.
The damage assessment process has already begun with over 100 homes already inspected and many more to go.
The Red Cross and the Salvation Army are already gearing up to help provide recovery materials and counseling. The Salvation Army has received a shipment of clean-up kits that contain cleaning tools, soaps and disinfectants that can be used to clean homes.
Flood victims can pick up a kit for free at the Salvation Army on South Burdick from 8:30 am to 4pm.
Goodwill Industries in Southwest Michigan are offering flood victims a $100 voucher they can obtain at any of their stores and spend at any of their stores to replace clothes, furniture and other household items they may have lost in the flood. They just ask that you spend it during one shopping trip and before the end of March.
