KENTWOOD (WKZO AM/FM) — Various sources are reporting that investigators have a person of interest in the Murder of 16-year-old Mujey Dumbaya, the Grand Rapids teen who was found dead in Kalamazoo’s West Douglas neighborhood late last month.
They are holding Quinn Anthony James, a former grounds worker at East Kentwood High where the teen went to school, who was reported to be the uncle of her boyfriend.
He is being held on an unrelated rape charge from 2014.
Dumbaya accused James of raping her last year, when she was just 15, and she was scheduled to testify against him in April on three counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct. Because James is a repeat offender, he would have spent a lot of time in prison if convicted.
That gives James a motive, but it takes much more than that to get a conviction and detectives are trying to see if the dots connect.
The 42-year-old suspect is being held on half-a-million dollars bond on that earlier rape charge, which also reportedly involves a teen victim and was investigated by Wyoming Police.
