UNDATED (WKZO AM/FM) — One major criminal trial will be coming to an end Tuesday, just as another one is getting started in West Michigan.
The jury in the Charles Pickett murder trial will report back to Kalamazoo County Circuit Court to hear closing arguments Tuesday morning, get final instructions and then begin deliberations.
The defense did not challenge prosecution’s assertions that the lesser charges of driving while intoxicated causing death and injury against Pickett were true, but are expected to challenge the claim that it constitutes second degree murder in closing arguments.
Pickett is accused of allegedly running down 9 cyclists in Cooper Township back in 2016, killing 5 and injuring 4.
In addition, jury selection will begin in the Jeffrey Willis murder trial in Muskegon for the disappearance of Jessica Herringa.
Willis, who has already been convicted of killing Rebekah Bletsch, will also face trial for the disappearance and death of the young mother who was taken from a gas station five years ago this month.
Jury selection is expected to last all week and the trial will follow.
