HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Saturday is Astronomy Day — this is a world-wide event.
Here in Holland, Shoreline Amateur Astronomical Association members will have telescopes and lots of information at Curtis Center park — that’s at the corner of Holland Eighth Street at College — for star-watchers and other space fans. says club member Peter Burkey.
“They’ll be able to get ifnoramtion about the club and about the observatory,” Burkey said. “We’ll have telescopes set up and we’ll be able to look at the moon for sure and probably other things.”
Club members are campaigning to raise the $65,000 to build an observatory at Ottawa County’s Hemlock Park. They’ve raised about $30,000, so far.
The public building would include a rotating dome with a high-quality amateur telescope and would be open to the public. Park employees would be trained by club members.
