KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — The Kalamazoo Gospel Mission has launched the public portion of a campaign to raise money for a new addition to their building to house women and children.
The drive was begun before a recent U. of M. Study that identified Kalamazoo as the community with the greatest concentration of homeless children in the state.
For campaign co-chair Tim Hiller, the introduction to the problem came through his wife, who taught at Woodward Magnet school, and who had many homeless students.
He said they would throw them birthday parties and help out in other ways because they were heartbroken by their need.
In front of a large crowd assembled at Mt. Zion he got to announce the good news, that they have collected $2.2-million towards their $3-million goal.
Hiller says they have a website for anyone who wants to contribute or you can call the Gospel Mission. The website is …..kzoogospel.org
They plan some fundraising events in May as well.
