BATTLE CREEK (WKZO AM/FM) — The potential for a stinky mess in Country Club Terrace in Battle Creek was averted when crews moved quickly to clean up 1,200 gallons of sewage that spilled out of a Vactor Truck Wednesday afternoon.
The truck was about half full when the sewage pushed through an open pump gate that the crew thought had been locked.
It had just been frozen and when the sewage warmed it up, it popped open, spilling the load onto the ground where it flowed into a storm retention pond in the middle of Country Club Terrace.
Within 15-minutes, staff recovered much of the lost sewage and treated the area with a granular chlorine.
They say it shouldn’t have any impact on homeowners.
The DEQ and the Health Department were notified of the spill.
