KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — Kalamazoo County Commissioners have passed a resolution vowing to become a Trauma informed, resilient community. That means making a major shift in analyzing why people have the problems they have and how they are treated.
It’s based on research that shows that a lot of adult problems are the result of childhood trauma, and treating those issues could alleviate a lot of others they suffer as adults.
Board Chair Stephanie Moore says she hopes other institutions and agencies follow their lead.
They will start infusing the philosophy and the approach to all of the county’s healthcare and human service programs, hoping that prevention will cut costs.
