KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM/FM) — One-hundred years of guitar-making on the north side of Kalamazoo will be celebrated Saturday at the old Gibson Guitar plant on Parsons Street.
When Gibson left Kalamazoo in 1984, Heritage Guitar moved into their former plant, allowing the city to maintain its guitar-making legacy.
“It’s going on the 32nd year right now, we opened in 1985 after the other company moved to Nashville,” Victoria Leach, who’s with Heritage Guitar, said Friday. “We’re going strong and we’re continuing to produce world-class products.”
Leach said Heritage will celebrate the milestone with music, food, and factory tours starting at 11 a.m.
They’ll also give an update on the state of the building, which is currently being renovated, and the iconic Gibson smokestack.
