KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM/FM) — The Chicago Cubs World Series trophy has visited Kalamazoo. Some fans got in line a half-day before doors opened at the Cityscape Events Center on the Kalamazoo Mall to make sure they would get to see it.
For most people, west Michigan is Tigers country. But, for people who live along the lakeshore who grew up with WGN coming in live across Lake Michigan, they’ve been watching the Cubs all their lives.
Congressman Fred Upton, R-St. Joseph, who knows the owners of the Cubs, says he was offered the trophy for a day if he wanted to show it off around his district. He said he jumped at the chance and worked with the organization to find suitable venues.
Upton said, when the Cubs visited the White House, he was back in Michigan and missed it, so when the opportunity came along, was only too happy to host the Trophy. His famous niece, Kate, may be dating a Tigers player, but Upton is a Cubs fan.
