KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — The Kalamazoo School Board has approved a policy banning guns from all school properties, including buildings, sports venues and even buses headed to events.
It closes a loophole in Michigan law that banned concealed weapons but failed to also ban open carry.
Recently the State Court of Appeals ruled that schools and other agencies are justified in passing policies correcting that mistake.
Nearly a dozen people spoke in favor of the ban, and no one opposed it.
Trustees also said they had not heard from a single gun advocate defending the idea of guns in schools. The only exception of course will be police officers.
Just a handful of School Boards have taken the action, but more are expected to follow.
