BATTLE CREEK (WKZO-AM/FM) — Investigators are trying to determine what sparked a Thursday morning fire and possible explosion at a home on Fourth Street in Battle Creek.
The single-family residential structure is a total loss. The fire also reportedly caused damage to neighboring homes.
Estimated damage to the surrounding property was pinned at $10,000. A pickup parked next to the house may have also been involved.
Eighteen firefighters responded to the fully-engulfed structure after 6:15 a.m. By the time they got there, the building had already collapsed.
The flames were contained after firefighters began an attack from a ladder truck.
Nobody was inside the residence at the time of the blaze. Investigators are trying to find the homeowner.
