KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — Senator Debbie Stabenow says she is too busy legislating and it’s too early to worry about who she may face at the polls a year and four months from now.
She thinks it’s ‘interesting’ that Kid Rock beat all the other republican contenders for her seat in a recent poll. She says she won’t worry about it until after the Republican primary in about a year.
She came to Kalamazoo yesterday, using the Kalamazoo River as a backdrop to urge residents in Kalamazoo to get behind the push to get the Great Lakes Initiative included in the next budget.
She says you don’t have to live on one of the Great Lakes to benefit from the funding.
The Clean-up of the Kalamazoo river received dollars because its part of the watershed. Bill Rose at
the Nature Center says area projects have received over $600,000 from Great Lakes Initiative funding.
We also asked the Senator when she expects action on the Army Corps of Engineer’s proposal to keep Asian carp from invading the Great Lakes to Congress for funding.
As it stands the comment and review period on the proposal means it could be another year and a half before the so called “Brandon Road Proposal” reaches Congress for funding.
She says she thinks every day counts and she will do what she can to expedite the issue.
