KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — The Hospital Hospitality House of Southwest Michigan says it’s still about $1 million away from beginning construction on its two new Kalamazoo facilities near Borgess Medical Center and Bronson Methodist Hospital.
Executive Director Judy Markusse Paget said $3.4 million has been raised for the housing for the families of out-of-town patients.
That’s about where fundraising for the capital campaign stood at the start of the month.
“We’ll build the one near Borgess first,” Paget said. “We do have a commitment to Bronson to go there next, and we want the money in the bank before we start at Borgess.”
The facilities would replace the historic house the organization currently uses on South Street.
“There’s a lot of upkeep and maintenance, and we are not barrier-free,” Paget said. “We turn a lot of people away that simply cannot do the stairs.”
She’s hoping the final $1 million can be raised by early summer.
