LANSING, MI (WHTC) – This morning Allegan County’s newly appointed Republican State Representative Mary Whiteford will be sworn in at the Capitol in Lansing.
Whiteford ran against Cindy Gamrat and lost in the primary two years ago. This time out, she is replacing Gamrat, who was ousted from her House seat because of a sex scandal. Whiteford won by a wide margin in the heavily Republican 80th District.
Whiteford sent out a press release stating she is honored and humbled to have received 63.7% of the vote. She says, “I have said it many times, but I’ll say it once more, it is awe inspiring and the responsibility of holding this office and being the credible, conservative voice on behalf of 90,000 fellow citizens is not lost on me.”
From 10-11 a.m. she will receive guests in the official office in the Anderson House Office Building and then at 11:00 a.m. walk to the House floor in the Capital. The swearing in ceremony takes place from 11:15 a.m. till 12:00 p.m.
Whiteford’s professional life includes running a financial planning business with her husband, Kevin, and working as a pediatric emergency nurse. She’s be active as a volunteer and served on many community boards. She is mom to three grown children and grandmother of one.
Coincidence would have it that Cindy Gamrat and Todd Courser are scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing this morning, but that hearing may be adjourned and rescheduled.
MIRS news is reporting that the attorney for Todd Courser wants more time to prepare his case. Gamrat’s Lawyers also plan to submit several motions to have disclosures she made as part of a censure agreement suppressed because promises were made.
The hearing would probably be rescheduled in April.
