COOPER TOWNSHIP (WKZO-AM) — It has become a tradition that, when a bike rider dies on the road, a certain kind of memorial is erected at the location of death.
It’s called a “ghost bike.” A derelict bicycle is stripped of its cables and reflectors, spray painted white then placed at the spot where the rider is struck.
Five of them have now been placed along North Westnedge Avenue, across from the bright orange marks painted on the pavement by accident investigators.
A steady stream of visitors have stopped or slowed to take a look at the memorial. Some leave flowers, some leave messages, others take photos.
