KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — The Family Health Center broke ground on a new $15 million clinic that will mainly serve low-income families on Kalamazoo’s west side from a location at East Alcott and Portage streets in the Milwood neighborhood.
It’s the second piece in a broader plan to create a cluster of health care and social service agencies at the former site of the Allied Paper plant. Kalamazoo County is planning to relocate their county health department at a new building on that site. There have also been talks to get the Department of Social Services to move to that location.
There is already a mental health and substance abuse facility at that location.
The clinic hopes to serve an additional 30,000 patients annually once the facility is established.
