KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — The suspect in the shooting death of six people in Kalamazoo on Saturday is due in court today to face formal charges and to set bond.
Kalamazoo Public Safety Chief Jeff Hadley said the suspect, 45-year-old Jason Dalton, is a Cooper Township man who worked as an insurance adjuster and Uber driver.
“What we know about the suspect is no criminal history,” Dalton said. “We’re really at a loss for the motives behind why he would do something like this.”
The shootings took place at three locations, which may have been linked in some way to the fares he was picking up and dropping off Saturday night.
But Undersheriff Pauli Matyas said there seems to be no other link.
“This is your worst nightmare, where you just have somebody driving around and killing people,” Hadley said.
Dalton has a clean record, but he will still likely be denied bail when he goes before a judge on Monday.
